What is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is a brain- and body-based therapy that helps process experiences that may be stored in your nervous system. By identifying a specific eye position, or "brainspot," we can access areas of the brain involved in emotional processing and healing. Many clients find that it helps them move through challenges that have felt difficult to resolve through talking alone.
What does a Brainspotting session feel like?
Every person's experience is different. During a session, you may notice emotions, memories, physical sensations, or simply a sense of calm. There is no "right" way to experience Brainspotting. Your brain naturally processes what it needs to, and I'll guide and support you throughout the process.
Do I have to talk about my trauma?
No. One of the unique aspects of Brainspotting is that it doesn't require you to share every detail of painful experiences. While talking can be part of the process, many clients appreciate that healing doesn't depend on repeatedly retelling their story.
What can Brainspotting help with?
Brainspotting may be helpful for:
- Anxiety
- Trauma and PTSD
- OCD and intrusive thoughts
- Chronic stress
- Grief and loss
- Performance anxiety
- Relationship challenges
- Low self-esteem
- Life transitions
- Emotional overwhelm
Is Brainspotting evidence-based?
Brainspotting is a relatively newer therapeutic approach that has growing research behind it and is used by therapists around the world. Many clients report meaningful improvements, particularly for trauma and anxiety. While research is still expanding, Brainspotting is informed by neuroscience and is often integrated with other evidence-based therapies.
I've already tried therapy. Can Brainspotting still help?
Absolutely. Many of my clients come to Brainspotting after years of traditional talk therapy. They often understand why they feel the way they do but still feel stuck. Brainspotting can complement the insight you've already gained by helping your brain and nervous system process experiences on a deeper level.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on your goals, history, and the concerns you're bringing to therapy. Some clients notice meaningful shifts within a few sessions, while others choose to continue longer-term work for deeper healing and personal growth.
Can Brainspotting be combined with other types of therapy?
Yes. I often integrate Brainspotting with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), somatic therapy, mindfulness, and other evidence-based approaches. Together, we'll tailor treatment to your unique needs and goals.
